September Tour to Fox Island County Park

The September FWEC tour will be hosted by the Fort Wayne Astronomical Society (fortwayneastronomicalsociety.com). We will have a “star party” where society members will assist us in observing interesting objects in the September sky. Please note: this tour is weather dependent; if it’s too cloudy we won’t be able to see anything. Fox Island can accommodate ~40 vehicles, there is another lot in front of the nature center that has a paved sidewalk that connects to that observatory, but it isn’t lighted, so remember that when the tour is over it will be dark.

(Rain date: Thursday, September 29th)

Due to the size of the FWEC membership for this tour the Fort Wayne Astronomical Society will be accepting donations for this tour. The recommended donation is $1. Please show them that the FWEC supports science and engineering in our area and be generous with the tour donation.

We are trying to get an informal head count to the Fort Wayne Astronomical Society. If attending please RSVP to Ryan Stark at FortWayneEngineersClub@yahoo.com.

The Fort Wayne Astronomical Society is a not-for-profit organization, incorporated in 1959, for the purpose of public education in Astronomy and related sciences. The Society conducts public observing sessions at its observatory every clear Saturday evening, from April through November, conducted by trained and experienced Society members. Public observing starts 1-hour after sunset and continues for two hours. The Society observatory was started in 1961 and completed and opened to the public in 1963. It was located north of Fort Wayne, on DuPont Road. Creeping light pollution from street and security lights caused skies to become less than desirable and in 1978, it was moved to Fox Island County Park.

Member Collaboration, Information, and Suggestions

Have you ever needed to e-mail a really big file, but your e-mail program couldn't handle it?  Club Member Chris Highlen has this suggestion.  “I used a free web service, www.transferbigfiles.com to send the PPT and images.  It really is free and any single file can be up to 100MB.  The only drawback is you can't include a message with it, at least not for free.  I just send a regular e-mail telling the recipient to be on the lookout for the message from the service and that it isn't spam.  I've used sites like this for many years and found them to be reliable and convenient.

Here are some others that have been recommended, although I haven't tried them all yet.
