The January FWEC tour is Science Central’s Science on a Sphere.  Please note that the tour will begin promptly at 7:00 and due to staffing concerns the doors will be locked upon tour start, so please show up early/on time.  Science Central's Science on a Sphere installation is the first of its kind in Indiana, and one of only about 100 in existence around the world.  Science on a Sphere was invented by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as a research tool to understand earth and space systems in a three-dimensional format; a six-foot diameter sphere of the Earth that appears to be floating in mid-air, and even rotating on its axis.

FWEC board member Rod Vargo is in the process of arranging the February tour at WaterFurnace.  The tour date has been finalized, but please watch for the February Engineers’ News for further tour details.  Additionally, due to WaterFurnace insurance, the tour cannot accommodate participants younger than 18 years of age.

FWEC 2013-2014 Membership Year Dues – Past Due

Membership dues for the 2013-2014 FWEC membership year are past due beginning in January.  Please review the address label on your mailed September newsletter to determine whether or not dues are owed.  Anyone with a “13” needs to pay for the 2013-2014 membership year.  Anyone with greater than 13 is paid past the 2013-2014 membership year.  If you are uncertain whether or not you still owe dues for the 2013-2014 membership year, Treasurer Ryan Stark will be contacting past due members.  Annual membership dues are $10/year for full and associate members and $5/year for student members.  Dues can be paid through the mail by check or paid online at our FWEC website: (note: there is an additional $1 service fee).

This is also a good opportunity to add a donation to the FWEC contributed academic award ( that is given during the Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week celebration held in February.

Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week – Citizen Engineer

Engineers’ Week is February 16th – 22nd.  Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week accepts nominations for its Citizen Engineer award ( from participating organizations.  As the FWEC is a participating organization we are able to nominate a candidate for consideration for Citizen Engineer.  Candidates should have participation or leadership with:  service club activities, youth organizations, school activities, community service work, church work, engineering organizations, and/or other activities for the betterment of the community.  Candidates can be submitted via the FWEC or using the instructions on the application form.

Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week – Banquet

Please mark your calendars for the Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week banquet to be held on Saturday February 22nd.  Final time, dinner menu, and location will be posted on the Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week website (  The banquet’s host and guest speaker are still to be announced, but the evening is enjoyable with highlights including presenting the academic awards to students by E-week organizations and the presentation of the Citizen Engineer award.

TekVenture Chain Reaction Challenge

TekVenture leadership is soliciting volunteers to help lead or participate in the planning and support of the Chain Reaction Challenge (CRC) (  TekVenture is looking for people to staff the committee and a co-leader for that event that is willing to work with TekVenture and the Allen County Public Library (ACPL) on the CRC committee growing the CRC.  If you know of someone you think might be approached to fill a leadership position even for one year, please let me Greg Jacobs, President TekVenture, know and he will discuss with you or them.

December Social History

The FWEC December social held at Mad Anthony Brewing Company ( was well attended by approximately 30 FWEC members and a few guests.  Regretfully, it was all social and little tour due to the absence of a Mad Anthony Brew Master to host the tour.  Participants did however; get a trip to their brew house despite the lack of a narrated tour.

FWEC Board Meetings

Fort Wayne Engineers’ Club board meetings are open to all FWEC members.  The next FWEC board meeting will be Tuesday February 4th at 7:00 PM.  Board meetings are held on the Indiana Tech campus in the Zollner Engineering Center in room Z-203 (

Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week
Academic Award Contributions
